The Omar Power Plant in eastern Syria serves the oil and gas production facilities of the Al Furat
Petroleum Company. The power plant has a number of gas turbine generators operating in open
cycle serving 66 kV and 20 kV overhead distribution networks.
Concerns about the reliability and availability of the
power generation facilities at Omar prompted an independent
review of the design, commissioning, maintenance
and operation of the facilities.
The plant was visited, facilities and records inspected
and operating staff interviewed to gain an appreciation
of the nature of the problems being experienced.
